Let me tell you about how great the geneablogger community is. Anytime one of us puts out an S.O.S., another answers the call.
The caller this time was me. Since 2007, I have been the editor for the San Joaquin Genealogical Society's newsletter. It's nothing fancy, but it is alot of work. I had been doing the entire thing myself - all the writing, all the copying, all the emailing and all the mailing. With everything else I have going on, it became too much. So in the last issue I wrote a couple of paragraphs basically saying that unless I got some help, that would be the last newsletter.
Out of all our members, one and only one stepped up to the plate - fellow geneablogger Leah Allen. Leah is a college student from Davis, California and the youngest member of our society. She is the author of The Internet Genealogist and the Sacramento Valley Graveyard Rabbit. Leah is a talented writer and has already breathed some fresh air into our publication.

ReplyDeleteGreat job! Question on the PDF production - this file is 11Mb which is quite large - what are you using to print to PDF? I recommend Primo PDF (http://www.primopdf.com/index.aspx) which is FREE and lets you print to PDF using various scaling file sizes.
Your post's title reminds of the time that Lucy and Ethel sang that song on "I Love Lucy"... a little help is always a good thing!

Nice work. I know how tough it can be to get content together for a society journal.
ReplyDeleteI concur with Thomas on the size and use Primo as well. I struggled with trimming down the AGS Quarterly file size to accomodate some members with dialup.
A huge difference for me was to not embed fonts in the document. I learned that little tidbit from some google-izing.
The geneabloggers community is indeed a great source of mutual support in what is quite a solitary profession. Well done to Leah for stepping in and taking some of the weight off you and making it possible for you continue together :-D Jo
